How we started

Established in 1965, REX CANNING CO. SDN. BHD. ( Registration No: 197201001412 (13079-V)) history is a tale of evolution; from a local company meeting the needs of a young market to a globally recognised brand.

Rex was founded by a group of entrepreneurs who dreamt of helping a young Malaysia build its food industry, and achieve self-sustainability in food. As the country had a young growing population, many people needed good quality products which offered value for money, and that was easy to cook and prepare. Armed with this belief of realising the country’s goals for food security, Rex started its manufacturing to cater solely for the local growing population.

Once establishing itself as a reliable and trustworthy brand in Malaysia, Rex began to look for opportunities beyond local shores. As a specialist in halal foods and beverages, the company saw Indonesia as the next ideal growing market to operate in. Rex then went on to China, as the country also had a large domestic Muslim market. With its two initial bases in Malaysia and Indonesia, Rex has since grown and diversified to reach out to consumers in Singapore, the United States, and Europe.


Throughout its journey, Rex has developed core abilities to maintain quality across all its products and investing into new recipes to adapt to changing consumer tastes. The company has dedicated food technologists who constantly update company recipes to offer canned cuisines for the evolving consumer needs.

While driven by growth, Rex has stayed true to its founding principles of providing the best for its consumers and clients—quality food and beverage, at the right price.
